It features eight hours of relaxing bird and water sounds, which have proved to be very soothing for insomniacs.

Since then, the video has gained 6.5 million views and become a firm favourite for tired people all over the world – from the UK to Beijing, and even North Korea.

Lawson told the BBC:

They started leaving me messages, saying the recordings were helping to relieve their insomnia. I’ve even had people watching my videos from inside the Vatican.

“I am in the middle of Manhattan,” wrote one viewer. “I didn’t even know such serenity existed.”

Lawson has stretched his videos to eight hours (to soothe people who woke up often during the night) and begun filming in other tranquil locations in Ireland.
